Eric Hsu (Head Coach)


Head Coach Eric is a former BC Provincial Champion. His competitive career includes playing in high level tournaments like the 2011 BC Winter Games. Since 8 years of age, he has had extensive training in both Taiwan and Canada. With his fun and goofy personality, he always finds a way to make training fun and enjoyable. But, if you’re a player that wants serious training, Coach Eric can turn up the intensity in an instant!

Eric is an all-around coach with specialties in developing technical skills and minimizing sport related injuries. With the combination of his badminton experience and his degree in UBC Kinesiology, you will for sure have a long-lasting badminton journey with him.

Phyllis Chan (Senior Coach)


Senior Coach Phyllis is a 3-time national champion and Pan American champion. She has represented Canada at major international events such as the Commonwealth Games, Pan American Games, Uber Cup, Sudirman Cups and World Championships.

Phyllis is also a NCCP Level-3 Certified Coach who has experience working with the Canadian national team at the 2018 Thomas and Uber Cup preliminaries and the 2017 Junior Pan American Championships. In addition, she worked with the BC provincial team at the 2015 Canada Winter Games and several editions of Western Canada Team Championships. Phyllis specializes in tactics and refining skills.

Simon Cheng


Coach Simon started playing badminton at the age of 7! He is a part of a badminton family and grew up at a badminton club. His competitive career includes playing in high level tournaments like the 2019 BC Winter Games.

Coach Simon has been coaching with us for 3 years and has experience working with both adult and younger players.  Our students found him to be such a passionate and detail-oriented coach, always finding better ways to help his students improve. Coach Simon specializes in Singles and Mixed Doubles.

Ted Chen


Coach Ted has experience working with recreational adult players through his previous role as the assistant coach. One of his many notable achievements was his participation in the 2016's Yonex Canada Open.

Our advanced students love his coaching for game strategy, and beginners love him for his ability to make training fun and lively. Coach Ted specializes with developing foundational skills and has also worked with the badminton team at Crofton House.

Jensen Ly

Jensen has almost 15 years of experience as player. He has won numerous titles in junior and senior tournaments. He competed for Kwantlen Polytechnic University. During that time, he was the Canadian College Athletic Association Mixed Doubles National Champion. Jensen has also competed in international tournaments down in US and is a multiple title holder in the doubles events at the Washington and Honolulu Open. After his retirement, he is moving onto the coaching stage. He has experience working with younger kids and teenagers.

Lorraine Li

Lorraine was professionally trained in the province of LiaoNing, China. She specializes in Women’s Singles and achieved the highest ranking of third in her province. Lorraine specializes in working with younger kids, developing foundational skills and hopes to pass her expertise to the next generation of athletes.
